In the History of Pennsylvania Volunteers (Bates, 1871), he is listed as a member of Company H of ?Independent Organitions.?
According to the History of York County Pennsylvania, (Prowell, 1907) at Gettysburg he was a member of the Twenty-Sixth Emergency Regiment, Company I. His obituary mentions that he was ?wounded in the limb and captured at Gettysburg.?
He was married three times, to Mary J. Bently, of Oxford; the second time to Lucy Wilson, of Waynesboro, by whom he had three children; Andrew, Guy and Annie, all of whom are living. His present wife was Elizabeth Witman, of York.
He was in the employ of the Farmers Fire Insurance company for twenty-four years. He was a member of Post 37, G.A.R.; Keystone conclave No. 12, Independent Order of Heptasophs; Harmonia lodge, No. 853, I.O.O.F.; and the Rex Hook and Ladder company. - 1900 US FEDERAL CENSUS
