ETTERS - George W. Bastress Sr., 60, of Newberry Township, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial Hospital.
The service will be 8 p.m. Thursday at the Workinger-Semmel Funeral Home Inc., 849 E. Market St., York, with cremation following. Burial will be private in Mount Rose Cemetery. Viewing will be 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bastress was born April 4, 1937, in York. He was the son of the late William H. and Charlotte N. (Staub) Bastress.
He was a grinder at York International for 33 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, 9th Ward Social Club, Liberty Social Club and Prince Athletic Association.
Mr. Bastress is survived by two sons, Dennis L. Bastress of Lake Mead, Adams County, and Cary E. Bastress of Abbottstown; two daughters, Brenda C. Kennedy and Cherie E. Spoonire, both of Adams County; 13 grandchildren; a brother, James M. Bastress of York; and five sisters, Frances M. Allison and Jane A. Courtney, both of York, Hazel E. Griffith of Etters, Jacqueline K. Coon of East Berlin and Judith Y. Troutman of Cumberland County. Mr. Bastress was preceded in death by a son, George W. Bastress Jr., who died in 1987.
Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. David W. Lovelace.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Ave., York 17403; or to American Heart Association, 2997 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion 17356.
