LEWISBURG - Dorothy E. (Bastress) Pursell, 95, formerly of William Penn Drive, passed away at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Leominster, Mass., where she lived for the last seven years.
She was born Oct. 15, 1908, near Shamokin, a daughter of the late Bruce and Jenny (Bahner) Bastress. She was married for 55 years to Robert Pursell, who preceded her in death in April 1997.
She was a graduate of Frankford Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia.
She was a registered nurse and worked for many years at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. She also did private nursing and was active with American Red Cross blood drives.
Mrs. Pursell was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, for more than 50 years.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Roberta and David Carlson of Leominster; one grandson and his wife, Nathan and Leslie of Leominster; two granddaughters, Allison Carlson of Leominster and Stephanie Carlson of Fitchburg, Mass.; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Carlson, Hudson Carlson and Amanda Berberian, all of Leominster; loving nieces; nephews; cousins; and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Beatrice Swank and Ruby Bastress, and her brothers, John Bastress and Robert Bastress.
A memorial service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1050 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg, by the Rev. Paula Gustafson.
Burial will be in Lewisburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 1050 Buffalo Road, Lewisburg, PA 17837; to the DVNA Hospice Program, 136 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420; or to a local hospice or charity of the donor's choice.
The Gary H. Cronrath Funeral Home Inc., South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
