WEST YORK -- Jane E. Reachard, 77 of West York, died Thursday morning at Memorial hospital. She was the wife of Carl O. Reachard. The couple observed their 49th wedding anniversary March 29.
The service will be 10 AM Monday Saint James Lutheran Church, 25 North Adams Street, York. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Will be no viewing. The Robert F. Koehler funeral loan Inc. 2000 West market Street, York, is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Reachard was born Sept. 16th, 1918, and Frederick, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late William Hunter and Anna L.(Marquette) Bastress.
She was a self-employed vacation, operating a beauty shopping for 31 years before retiring in 1990. She was a member of Saint James Lutheran Church, the church choir and Mary Rebecca Circle of the women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Mrs. Reachard is survived by
two sons, Michael A. Reachard, York
Joel K. Reachard of Baltimore; and
two granddaughters.
Officiating into service will be her pastor the Rev. George W. Fitch Jr.

According to his obituary, Mr. Bastress was a veteran of the Civil war, having enlisted three times, one of the terms of service being in the Third United States cavalry, in which he attained the rank of sergeant.
In the History of Pennsylvania Volunteers (Bates, 1871), he is listed as a member of Company H of ?Independent Organitions.?
According to the History of York County Pennsylvania, (Prowell, 1907) at Gettysburg he was a member of the Twenty-Sixth Emergency Regiment, Company I. His obituary mentions that he was ?wounded in the limb and captured at Gettysburg.?
He was married three times, to Mary J. Bently, of Oxford; the second time to Lucy Wilson, of Waynesboro, by whom he had three children; Andrew, Guy and Annie, all of whom are living. His present wife was Elizabeth Witman, of York.
He was in the employ of the Farmers Fire Insurance company for twenty-four years. He was a member of Post 37, G.A.R.; Keystone conclave No. 12, Independent Order of Heptasophs; Harmonia lodge, No. 853, I.O.O.F.; and the Rex Hook and Ladder company.
