1. Bastress, Robert Bryan

Notes:

Robert G. ?Bob? Bastress, 98, of Loyalsock, died Sunday, June 24, 2018, at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Jean K. (Kelly) Bastress, on July 2, 2012.

Born March 24, 1920, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Paul L. and Alma J. (Grove) Bastress.

Bob was a 1938 graduate of Williamsport High School. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the European Theatre. Following his military service he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier and later retired as a Superintendent in 1975 after 34.5 years.

He was a founding member of Northway Presbyterian Church and a member of the local masonic lodge. He was also a charter member of Pine-Aires Camping Club. Bob was a lifelong and avid tennis player, he enjoyed camping, and was a skilled woodworker. His true joy in life was spending time with his family and he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving are a daughter, Rebecca S. Underwood (Norman), of Bloomfield, N.Y.; three sons, Robert G. Bastress Jr., of Modesto, Calif., Barry K. ?B.K.? Bastress (Robin) and Brian S. Bastress, both of Spring Mills; seven grandchildren, Robert Bastress (Stacey), Amy Green (Thomas), Cortney Underwood, Lindsay Dadic-Underwood (Christine), Heather Cerny (Adam), Madison Bastress, and Samantha Bastress; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred M. Bastress in 1991.

In keeping with his wishes, services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery.

The family wishes to thank The Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital and 6th Floor West Special Care Unit at UPMC Susquehanna, Williamsport, for their kindness and support in caring for their Father and Grandfather.

Robert married Kelly, Jean L on 14 Jun 1941. Jean was born on 13 Oct 1919 in Clearfield, PA; died on 2 Jul 2012 in Williamsport, Lycoming County, PA; was buried in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, PA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Jean K. Bastress, 92, of Williamsport died Monday, July 2,2012 at the Williamsport Hospital.

Born October 13, 1919 in Clearfield, PA she was a daughter ofHarry W. and Edna (Kline) Kelly. She married Robert G. Bastress and celebrated 71 years together on June 14. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leon Kelly.

She was the first secretary at the former Four Mile Elementary School and retired from there. She also worked as a proofreader for the Gazette Bulletin and at Yoas doing mechanical drawing layouts. Jean was a member of the Northway Presbyterian Church and the Barefoot Bay Quilters. She enjoyed reading, quilting, camping, painting, and caring for her family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Rebecca S. (Norman) Underwood of Bloomfield, NY; three sons, Robert G. Bastress, Jr. of Alameda, CA, Barry K. ?B.K.? (Robin) Bastress and Brian S. Bastress, both of Spring Mills; seven grandchildren, Robert (Stacey) Bastress, Amy (Thomas) Green,Cortney Underwood, Lindsay Underwood, Heather Splettstoesser, Madison Bastress,and Samantha Bastress; five great grandchildren, Danica, Robert, Ellis,Kaitlyn, and Lauren; and a sister, Nancy J. Thomas of Warminster, PA.

Burial will be held in Green Lawn Memorial Park.

Paul married Grove, Alma J. Alma was born on 27 May 1897; died on 20 Dec 1968 in Williamsport, Lycoming County, PA; was buried in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery, PA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
